    Dear Chapter Members,

ISPI would like to offer a discounted rate of $695 for the CPT to Chapter Members from October 1, 2015 through the Annual Conference, ending April 12, 2016. This is a savings of $300 for our Chapter Members.

In order to get the discounted rate of $695 a Chapter Member must:

    • Be listed on their Chapter Roster, and have paid dues (if any) for the year
    • Be a Society Member. If the Chapter Member is not a Society Member, they may select the best category to become a Member.  To view the Member rates, click here.  For assistance with processing your Membership, please email membership@ispi.org.

    About the CPT
Offered since 2002, this proficiency-based certification involves practitioners committing to a code of ethical practice and documenting how multiple examples of their work meet validated Performance Improvement Standards. The CPT credential is in demand by organizations hiring for specific performance improvement expertise and used as a benchmark for organizations choosing to develop their staff, deploy teams, and evaluate the expertise of vendors and consultants.

The CPT is the sole performance improvement credential available that is based on a comprehensive demonstration of real-world experience and competence across multiple projects. You are not required to complete a formal training or education program or an exam.

The eligibility requirements to apply for certification include a minimum of three years of experience in performance improvement or a related field and a detailed description of work performed in multiple projects in a manner that demonstrates the use of each of the Standards with attestations from internal/external clients or supervisors. A qualified reviewer will review all the documentation received from a candidate and determine if all requirements have been met.

All candidates for the certification must commit to the Code of Ethics. Once certified, performance improvement professionals must apply for recertification every three years to maintain the CPT designation.

If you have questions about the CPT and the CPT process, please email: certification@ispi.org

Kate Everson, associate editor at Chief Learning Officer, cautions "results from research might be less accurate than they seem."

"The Reproducibility Project at the Center for Open Science in Charlottesville, Virginia, has spent a year testing 100 psychological studies published in three of the area’s top journals — Psychological Science, the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology and the Journal of Experimental Psychology: Learning, Memory and Cognition.

Get ready to cringe: More than 60 of the studies have not held up when reproduced. These are studies that have shaped decisions made by therapists, researchers and educators — including learning leaders."

Recently, ISPI Past President Jim Hill met with staffers of the House Ways & Means Committee about a new bill soon to be presented to the House of Representatives; this bill is expected to pass. Why do we care?  It’s a bill about evidence-based policymaking and includes performance principles related to data collection and evaluation.  Jim Hill suggested a few ISPI members be included in an Advisory Committee related to this initiative. Look for more details to follow.
